Succulent Orange Chicken Recipe

Ingredients for Orange Chicken Recipe:

2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken, chopped into cubes or strips

1 egg

Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

Oil for stir frying

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon ginger, minced

1 teaspoon garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon crushed red chili or cayenne pepper

1/4 cup green onions, chopped

1 tablespoon dry sherry or rice wine

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Orange Sauce for Stir Fry

3 tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons water

3 tablespoons sugar

1/2 cup orange juice

1 orange zest

Preparation for Orange Chicken Recipe:

In a large bowl mix egg, salt, pepper and 1 tablespoon oil together. Add chicken pieces and mix well. Let chicken marinate for 30 minutes.

Heat oil for deep-frying in a wok or deep-fryer on high heat until it is hot or reaches 350 degrees. After chicken has marinated, stir cornstarch and flour together in another bowl. Add marinated chicken to it and stir to coat properly.

Add chicken in small batches at a time and fry 3 to 4 minutes or until they or golden. Chicken should be completely submerged in oil and avoid overcrowding the pan. When chicken is done remove and drain on paper towels and set aside.

Clean out the wok or frying pan and place it over high heat and wait for approximately 10 seconds before placing 1 tablespoon oil in it. Add ginger and garlic and stir-fry until it is aromatic. Add chilli and green onions and stir-fry.

Make a well in the middle of the wok and add dry sherry or rice wine and orange sauce. (If the orange is too intense for your taste buds, you can use less orange juice or dilute it with water.) Bring to boil and then add cooked chicken and continue stirring.

Stir water into the remaining 1 tablespoon cornstarch until mixture is smooth and add this to the wok. When sauce is thickened stir in sesame oil and allows the mixture to simmer until ingredients are well hot.

Serve over Steaming White Rice.
